How It Works

Our plugins are designed for simplicity. Here's how easy it is to get started with Offload Media.

The Big Picture

When you upload an image or file to WordPress, our plugin automatically copies it to Hetzner Object Storage. Then it updates the URL so your visitors load the file from Hetzner instead of your server.

Your workflow doesn't change at all. Upload media like you always have. The magic happens in the background.

Step by Step

Here's exactly what you need to do to get started.

1 Step One

Create a Hetzner Cloud Account

If you don't have one already, sign up at hetzner.cloud. New accounts get €20 in free credits – enough for months of storage.

Takes about 2 minutes.

2 Step Two

Create a Storage Bucket

In Hetzner Cloud Console, go to Object Storage and create a new bucket. Give it a name like "mysite-media" and pick a region close to your audience.

Takes about 1 minute.

3 Step Three

Get Your Credentials

Still in Object Storage, click "Manage credentials" and generate S3 credentials. You'll get an Access Key and Secret Key. Save these somewhere safe.

Takes about 30 seconds.

4 Step Four

Install and Connect

Install Offload Media in WordPress, go to Media → Hetzner Offload, and enter your credentials. Click "Test Connection" to verify everything works.

Takes about 1 minute.

✓ Done!

You're All Set

That's it! New media uploads will automatically go to Hetzner Object Storage. Your workflow stays exactly the same – just upload media like you always have.

With Pro, you can also migrate your existing media library with one click.
